Artist's Description
A scene in the old Malay quarter of Cape Town with its steep cobbled streets and people walking back from the mosque or shops. A mother walks up the hill towards us with her child close behind and further away we glimpse a group of Muslim men in their white robes and red fezes talking together. In the mid-distance are the modern offices of the city centre below.
Bright pink geraniums tumble from a box that stands on a low wall between the old houses which are surprisingly large inside and usually stretch back onto a courtyard often shared by other houses. A cat stretches and is ready to chase pigeons or mice. Deep shadows are cast across the sunlit street from the tall mosque and houses. Table Mountain's slopes are a faint blue on the horizon. Would be a nice reminder of a visit to Cape Town for somebody now overseas.

Many of the little houses around are being renovated now rather spoiling the original Malay character of the streets here but sending their prices sky high. The mosques remain unspoilt thankfully. Elinor
