Winter flowering rockery plants in the sunshine brighten the day in a South African botanical garden. Cool shadows between the succulents leaves and rocks give plenty of contrast to the cheerful scene which is painted in a pointillist manner reminiscent of artists painting a century ago in France.

My mother was an artist and I spent my childhood years in North Wales with my maternal grandmother until the war was over when I was reunited with my mother in London.
