In this spring morning scene the sun shines brightly through high cloud while rain showers approach in the distance. The Istrian valley is a patchwork of yellow, brown and green fields interspersed with mauve plantations. A farmhouse with sienna colored roof stands below the viewer and farm buildings can be seen in the middle distance. To the left climbs a small hillside mediaeval village on a spur of land that juts down to the valley while tall pine trees in the foreground give a dramatic perspective to this oil painting.
