This painting of the door of the Madonna in the Baptistery in Parma shows the lunette with the Virgin above and the pink marble pillars either side. The pink marble is from Verona and this is the most important door which faces north onto the square in which stands the Cathedral and Bell Tower.

My mother was an artist and I spent my childhood years in North Wales with my maternal grandmother until the war was over when I was reunited with my mother in London.
